Musical Stories 2: YA

This week's Musical Stories are YA. (If you have no idea what I'm talking about, this is last week's post that started the series).

Number one is not technically a 'story' but it screams 'YA' at me every time I hear it, so let's cheat and call it a character study :)

Number two is simply because not all YA stories are dark, whatever some newspapers might think; although it doesn't have the happy ending I always thought it did :( (PS sorry about the ad – but you can skip it. It was the only one with the official video).

For number three, I was going to pick one from last week's comments, but then I found this video. I'm a Buffy freak and I thought this was fun (and no, the song has nothing to do with the series), so I'll even forgive the singers for info dumping the back story ;-)

Next week we're moving onto the crime genre. I think I'm going to have trouble choosing just three!

  1. When I saw Buffy there, I thought for sure the video would include Angel. Zandar works too, that was a great show, wasn't it?

  2. Teenage Dirtbag actually works well with my WIP because it's basically how the main character feels for the first 3rd of the book--I'll add it to the writing playlist!

  3. I love number one! This is a very neat idea. :)

  4. I loved the Buffy series! Great post again Sarah :)

  5. You do good work Sarah. I have a YA idea that I haven't started on yet. These give me things to think about.

  6. Good representatives of the YA genre! Man, I miss Buffy.

  7. I'll have to come back to watch/listen to these!

(Although, I admit, I don't know much about Buffy the Vampire Slayer.)

  8. Good luck as you continue to write!

And thanks for commenting on my blog! Good to see you!

  9. What a fun idea!! I'm at work so I can see the videos but I'll definitely be back, I want to see your choices!

  10. Great videos here. Thanks for sharing! I love finding new awesomeness.

  11. Teenage Dirtbag for the win!

Story songs... Lets see, all the stuff from the Lonely Island guys is good. I think I might re-write the lyrics to "I'm on a Boat" to "I wrote a book"

A good WWII song is Sink The Bismark by Johnny Horton.

The Highwayman by The Highwaymen is really good. How can you go wrong with a Dam Builder, a sailor, and Johnny Cash as star-ship captain!

I am going to stop, you could do this all day long.

  12. Joanne - It was a great show! I thought the Buffy/Xander combo made a nice change :)

Katie - Hope I gave you a tiny bit of inspiration :)

AA - Thank you, and the Janis Ian song is beautiful isn't it?

Rebecca - Thanks, and me too :)

Life 101 - I love giving people stuff to think about :)

Linda - Oh so do I!

Golden Eagle - If you delve into Buffy, you have a treat coming to you.

Lauren - Thank you, and likewise :)

Jen - I hope you enjoy them :)

Sarah - Thank you, there will be more on Friday ;-)

SB - Goody, more new tracks to try out. I'll be doing a war genre in the next few weeks too so thanks for the heads up :-)

  13. What a fun idea! I'll definitely check back next week! :D

  14. These definitely do give off the perfect YA vibe- great pics! I'm a big buffy fan too:) Actually I think most CW shows and their soundtracks give off a pretty definite YA vibe- probably why I love them so much.

  15. Chantele - thank you, and welcome to you :)

CQG - I'll probably kick myself but what's CW?

    Talli - thank you :)

Christina - Oh, how I agree!

I happily answer all comments on my blog, and by email if it's not a 'noreply' address :-)
