I've been tagged for
the Lucky 7 meme by Medeia Sharif and Traci Kenworth.
I'm sure you all know
the rules by now but, just in case:
- Go to page 77 of your current MS/WiP
- Go to line 7
- Copy down the next 7 lines, sentences or paragraphs, and post them as they're written.
- Tag 7 authors.
My current WiP has a
huge spoiler on page 77 and, as I'm hoping a few of you might want to
read it after the A to Z challenge, I decided to go with the other
one that I keep going back to revise bits of. The working title is
The Bad Mother, but that's only because I have absolutely no idea
what to call it.
Beth
took both of Amalia's hands in her own.
“Listen to me, maybe it's time to let go. Get on with your own
life. Yes, it's sad that some women don't get to have babies but
maybe we have to look at the bigger picture. Society works pretty
well the way things are.”
Amalia
was aghast.
“Beth, I can't believe you're saying these things.
You were as horrified as I am when you found out about all this. I
thought Matthew was getting somewhere, however slowly.”
“He is, and that's what worries me. What if all this comes
crashing down on his head. Is it worth it?”
“Yes.” said Amalia firmly.
So,
there you have it. As clear as mud :-)
I
love reading snippets of people's work, but I know lots of you have
done this aleady, so if you'd like to take part, consider yourself
tagged!
I might do this in a couple months. Partially because I don't have 77 pages written yet. :D
ReplyDeleteNot even if they're double spaced? (Which is what I had to do!)
DeleteI started writing in January and have slacked the last month and a half in writing....and that's double spaced. *sigh*
DeleteDon't beat yourself up. It will come, I promise.
DeleteI like reading snippets of other people's works too. :) Great scene, it makes me very interested to read more!
ReplyDeleteThank you :-)
DeleteI've been seeing this around on the blogs today and enjoy reading parts of various stories ... lots of good writing going on here!
ReplyDeleteI know, it's so interesting isn't it?
DeleteNice lines, Sarah! ever thought about 6 on Sunday? :)
ReplyDeleteMaybe when I've actually finished a revision pass :-)
DeleteLeave us hanging!!!
ReplyDeleteHeh, just following the rules sir!
DeleteAh ... very interesting! What, exactly, is Matthew making progress on?
ReplyDeleteI got tagged today and might try this next week.
Oh yes, please do - I love eavesdropping on peoples work :-)
DeleteOooh, I love teasers. They always make me want more!
ReplyDeleteI know, it's been terrible reading so many great snippets!
DeleteI kind of want to smack Beth. :P
ReplyDeleteI'm saying nothing! ;-)
DeleteI like Beth. I also have a character named Beth in one of my stories. She's much like yours. : )
ReplyDeleteI love the way a character can produce such different reactions in 7 lines. Alleged Author wants to smack her :-)
DeleteSarah I love this! Beth's friggin awesome to lay it on the line like that. Great writing clip.
ReplyDeleteThanks Erin :-)
DeleteLove snippets! Because I don't really know what's happening and I want to know!
ReplyDeleteI know! So many mysteries flying around at the moment :-)
DeleteYes, but did you drink a 7 Up while you were doing this? :)
ReplyDeleteNo. I broke the chain :-(
DeleteThanks for sharing your story excerpt, Sarah. I feel as if I am listening in on the middle of something intense, and I want to read more.
ReplyDeleteGlad you liked it Cynthia :-)
DeleteYeah, right, and someone told me you couldn't write. Oh, was that you? Excellent Sarah.
ReplyDeleteDenise
Heh, thanks Denise :-)
DeleteIf you needed a different title for The Bad Mother, how about "The Revenge of SIGGY"
ReplyDeleteIt's very catchy.
PS.. a scifi story about three guys playing hoops... OH boy! But I suppose it could have been worse... I have *no* idea what steampunk is :)
Heck, I can't believe that title passed me by!
DeleteAnd I apologise, I never even thought of what might be hard, just stuff I like to read :-)
(No take-backsies though) ;-)
Great lines! It's interesting to hear your writing voice. I'm loving all these excerpts wandering around bloggerland!
ReplyDeleteThanks Annalisa, there are so many intriguing snippets around, aren't there?
Deleteclear as mud EXACTLY!
ReplyDeletebut it made me go- wha-huh? i wanna know what's happening here! :)
Well, good :-) Maybe you can find out in about 2018!
DeleteHuh... and you're leaving us dangling? meany! (you know I love you really!)
ReplyDeleteLx
Hehe, I know :-) <3
DeleteOoh, I love that snippet! Very intense!
ReplyDeleteThank you - hope you had a fantastic weekend (and that you're not reading emails until you get back!)
DeleteFun snippet! Wow, I wonder what this intrigue with Matthew is! I have not done this yet, so I think I WILL consider myself tagged. We have a big family wedding coming up on Saturday, so I figured Thursdays post would be difficult to pull off, but voila! Thank you, Sarah!! :)
ReplyDeleteOh yes, I REALLY liked yours. Looking forward to reading more one day :-)
DeleteI loved mud when I was a kid.
ReplyDeleteNow, I'm trying to figure out if we're talking about babies or not.
Secretly, I still do!
DeleteAnd yes, definitely.
Nice snippet. =)
ReplyDeleteThank you :-)
DeleteWow, very cool! So excited to read the rest :)
ReplyDeleteSarah Allen
(my creative writing blog)
Thanks Sarah. One day, hopefully :-)
DeleteI like playing in mud! Nice snippet. :)
ReplyDeleteWho doesn't? :-) And thank you.
DeleteOh baby reproduction drama. I'm so in. Especially if the woman that wants to have a baby is surrounded by women who can have babies but choose not to. That's like a slap in the face and is even better tension.
ReplyDeleteYou haven't quite got it, but you're very close!
DeleteOh I like yours! I posted mine yesterday. :-)
ReplyDeleteI'd love to know what they're talking about.
I remember, I was letting getting to yours but I had to comment on it!
DeleteNice snippet. Makes me want to read more.
ReplyDeleteThanks Sherry :-)
DeleteGreat teaser!
ReplyDeleteCheers Josh :-)
DeleteAs clear as mud! lol. That's funny. Your lines are wonderful. Love 'em! Congrats on the award.
ReplyDeleteHeh, thanks Leigh :-)
DeleteHow fun! It makes for a very interesting Teaser ;-)
ReplyDeleteNew follower here. I'm trying to get a head start on visiting my fellow "A to Z"ers. I'm really enjoying your blog and I look forward to visiting again.
Sylvia

Welcome to you Sylvia, and thank you. I look forward to introducing myself on your blog over the weekend :-)
DeleteOhhh, I may have to take you up on this. I've been lacking things to blog about, anyway :)
ReplyDeleteYours is excellent!
Oh, I hope you do. I'm so nosy - and thank you very much :-)
DeleteNow I want to know more about the story.
ReplyDeleteGreat excerpt!
Well, you'll be able to read the first few pages soon - although I'm thinking you'll want me to wait until after the A-Z now?
DeleteVery intriguing. Now I want to read the rest.
ReplyDeleteOne day, I really hope you'll be able to :-)
Deleteooo interesting! I like it. And I really like the name Amalia. Cool stuff!
ReplyDeleteThank you very much :-)
DeleteNice snippet and intriguing teaser. Yes, Yes! I am with Amalia. It is worth it-for a baby, unless of course she is walking into a wrath of danger she will not be able to recover from. It sounds like she is, according to Beth. Of course I don't know the relationship between the characters, which makes the snippet all the more mysterious. What in the heck is Matthew working on? I want to know. I definitely want to read this. I am so curious. I love stories that tackle or flirt with women's issues of having babies and just how far they are willing to go to make it happen. It is probably because of my own personal ordeal with IVF and my desperation to become a mother. This is good, Sarah. I love reading these seven line snippets. This was a super cool meme. I hope it keep going for a while.
ReplyDeleteYou had IVF? Me too, although I was very lucky.
DeleteThank you for the great comments - and by the way, your response to my comment on your 7 lines really really makes me want to read your story :-)
PS. I like the title, The Bad Mother. I mean, of course I don't know enough about the story for my opinion to count, but I like it. I have seen so many titles that come close to that, but never that exact title and it would prompt me to buy a book, just from the title.
ReplyDeleteI appreciate your opinion, and the title is actually accurate, although technically it should be The 'Bad' Mother - I was just worried it sounded a bit generic.
DeleteHi Sarah,
ReplyDeleteI am making my initial rounds of A to Z Challengers and just stopped in to say Hi.
The snippet from your WIP aroused my curiosity! Best of luck with the creative process.
Hi Gail, thank you and welcome to you. I look forward to visiting your blog over the weekend :-)
DeleteWow, such powerful emotions. Thanks for sharing this.
ReplyDelete......dhole
Thanks Donna, I appreciate that.
DeleteOooh, it's just like overhearing an intriguing piece of conversation and wanting to follow the people to learn what it's all about.
ReplyDeleteNot that we would ever do that of course. Right?
DeleteI like Amalia's determination. Great excerpt. Can't wait to read more.
ReplyDeleteThanks Madeleine. I hope you get the chance one day!
DeleteThanks for sharing! I love reading snippets of other peoples work! :D
ReplyDeleteOh me too :-)
DeleteOhhhh... man. Way to pack such an amount of emotion is such a small snippet. Sounds dramatic. Nice work, Sarah! Phew! :D
ReplyDeleteHeh, thanks Morgan. I'm glad you liked it :-)
DeleteI love this meme! I keep hoping someone will pass it on to me. lol
ReplyDeleteIntriguing snippet!
Oh, please, consider it passed on. I'd love to read something.
DeleteI love the name Amalia. Great snippet. So much in so little. ;0)
ReplyDeleteThanks Jenny. She's the only one that hasn't had her name changed :-)
DeleteGreat snippet! Matter of fact, all the snippets I've read for this meme have been outstanding.
ReplyDeleteIt's been a fascinating meme, that's for sure!
DeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteI love your excerpt, Sarah! I still need to do this meme - so curious to find out what's on my 77th page! (My brain is so fried, I typed Susan instead of Sarah - ughh sorry!)
ReplyDeleteThat's okay, I've been called a lot worse ;-)
DeleteI'll look forward to reading yours!
Haha! I've tagged you... and you've just done it. But that's cool. You've got a link from my blog :D
ReplyDeleteHeh, thank you for the thought - and the link :-)
DeleteIntriguing. I now want to know more :-)
ReplyDeleteHopefully, you'll be able to read it all one day :-)
